Vito Tanzi, a leading expert in taxation issues discusses changes in the tax systems of the Latin American countries in recent decades and explores the extent to which their experience is relevant to Asia and the Pacific in the present

Vito Tanzi has been the Director of the Fiscal Affairs Department, International Monetary Fund and Undersecretary for Economy and Finance of Italy.

He is currently Honorary President of the International Institute of Public Finance.

He is a leading expert in public finance who has published hundreds of articles in professional, economic journals – including the American Economic Review, the Journal of Political Economy, the Review of Economics and Statistics, the Journal of Public Economics, the Economic Journal – and more than 20 books.

His recent publications include Policies Institutions and the Dark Side of Economics (2000), Peoples, Places and Policies: China, Japan and Southeast Asia (2008), Government versus Markets (2011)

The Changing Economic Role of the State (2011), Recent Developments in Public Finance(2011) and Dollars, Euros and Debt (2013).

Vito Tanzi received a PhD in Economics from Harvard University.
