Chinese delegation visits Uruguay

The president of Uruguay, Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou, welcomed Liu Jianchao, minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China and head of the Chinese delegation, on August 6th in a conversation about the progress of economic integration and the free trade agreement. Minister Liu “expressed his gratitude to Uruguay for the announcement of the Mechanism of Dialogue Mercosur-China, which will take place in the coming days in Montevideo, after six years of inactivity” (Chancellor’s Office of Uruguay). In addition, the Chancellor’s Office regarded the visit as of great political significance since Lacalle Pou’s last visit to China. According to Lacalle Pou, Uruguay will seek to restart the dialogue with China during its presidency in the Mercosur to reach a trade agreement between both sides.
