On 12 November 2024, the UCU Business School, Economy Department of FCS-UDELAR, and Programa Pharos de la ACADECO organized in Montevideo a Conference to analyze the opportunities and challenges faced by the MERCOSUR in its relation with the Asian markets. This event positioned itself as a strategic area to connect academic research, diplomatic experiences, and reflections of key players for the economic integration with Asia, a region leading the global economic growth and concentrating important commercial dynamics.
With the participation of renowned academicians, officials of the Government, and leaders of the private sector, the seminar dealt with the analysis of plurilateral agreements CPTPP and RCEP, commercial strategies, and potential of regional value chains, leaving fundamental lessons for Uruguay and MERCOSUR in their way to a more competitive international integration.
Dr. Ignacio Bartesaghi (UCU Business School - Uruguay) opened the event highlighting the relevance of the relation between the MERCOSUR and Asia in a world where the reshaping of the global value chains and the new trade agreements are molding the international trade rules. Bartesaghi stated in his introduction that the seminar seeks to answer key questions on how the MERCOSUR may integrate better in a global scenario marked by the dynamism of the Asian markets.
