Network of investment agreements between countries in Latin America and Asia Pacific
The countries of Asia Pacific and Latin America have in-force agreements that promote, protect, and facilitate investments among them. These agreements, most of them bilateral, constitute the legal framework that guarantees investors of the counterpart are not discriminated in connection with a local investor or other foreign investors, assures a compensation for expropriation or damage to the investment made, guarantees the transfers of funds generated by the capital invested, and establish a mechanism for dispute settlement.
In most cases, these agreements started to proliferate during the 1990s of the last century and remain in force until now. The following is a review of those reaching a new year of validity in September.
