Cooperation Relations Between Brazil and Vietnam Strengthened
The visit to Brazil by the Vietnamese Prime Minister, Phạm Minh Chính, at the end of September, provided the opportune moment for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Da Silva to express that, within the framework of Brazil's pro tempore presidency, he will propose to the other MERCOSUR partners to explore the possibility of a trade agreement with Vietnam. He stated, "I am confident that we will make progress in this discussion. It is in our interest to bring Mercosur closer to ASEAN," added Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, as reported by Folha de São Paulo.
In 2022, bilateral trade reached a record of $6.4 billion (+18%). Brazilian exports amounted to $3.4 billion, and imports exceeded $2.9 billion. Brazil is the main supplier of soybeans and pork, and the second-largest supplier of chicken and cotton to Vietnam.
